Coinbase’s business customers can now accept payments from AI agents

“We’re delivering that experience to the new online agency economy,” Coelho-Prabhu said in an interview. “Agents, on one side of the transaction, will go and read the Coinbase developer docs, create a wallet for themselves and be ready to trade. Then we empower the companies so that everything in their inventory is now available on the web through this agent-friendly payment flow.”

For users of the exchange, they can have an easier command of crypto markets with a live order list that streams an agent’s open and active orders in real time, showing the status, price and size so that the user can monitor every move, Coinbase said in a press release.

This will put agent trading at their fingertips, where the agent gets real-time market data and the ability to trade on terms independently. “Tell it what you want in plain English — ‘buy ETH if it drops 5%,’ ‘sell when my order fills’ — and it monitors the market and executes for you. The same WebSocket data that powers institutional desktops is now available via natural language,” Coinbase said.

Additionally, for developers there is a new x402 SDK from the Coinbase Developer Platform, builders can now add x402 payment acceptance to any API, MCP server or web service in 3 lines of code.
