Norway, Sweden and Finland are usually the countries that dominate cross-country skiing. Ogden’s podium finish was the first for an American in the discipline. American men had not won a medal in any cross-country event since Bill Koch in 1976.

Ogden finished first in the second quarterfinal race over Sweden’s Alvar Myhlback, Italy’s Federico Pellegrino and Finland’s Lauri Vuorinen. American teammate JC Schoonmaker was also in contention for a place in the final, but he fell short in his semi-final run.

Ogden is no stranger to the history books of American cross-country skiing. He and his teammates took home a silver medal at the 2018 World Junior Ski Championships in Switzerland, the first medal for the United States at the junior worlds.

He made his Olympic debut in 2022 in Beijing, finishing 12th in the tournament. Four years later, Ogden can now call himself an Olympic medal winner.
