Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force says it has launched a crackdown on drug smuggling around educational institutions and several cities across the country.
According to a statement issued by the ANF on Wednesday, seven suspects were arrested in six separate operations where 153.4 kg of narcotics were seized. That puts the value of the recovered drugs at more than Rs11.7 million.
Target areas near educational institutions
According to ANF, officers recovered 7.7 kg of hashish from a suspect near a college in Lyari, Karachi. In Hyderabad, it says 2 kg of hashish was seized from a suspect near a university.
The ANF also said the arrested suspects admitted to selling drugs to students.
List of operations
Near the Northern Bypass in Karachi, ANF recovered 120 kg of hashish from a vehicle and two suspects were arrested. Near Ring Road in Peshawar, 18 kg of hashish and 1.3 kg of ice (crystal meth) were seized from a vehicle and a suspect was arrested, according to ANF.
In Peshawar, the ANF says 2.4 kg of hashish was recovered from a suspect near a cricket ground, while near the Indus Highway in Kohat, 2 kg of hashish was seized and a suspect arrested.
According to ANF, cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotic Drugs Act, 1997 and investigations are underway.
