Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Saturday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Tips and Answers for Saturday, February 14 (Game #713).
Strands is the NYT’s latest word game, following the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult though, so read on for my Strands tips.

NEW Strands today (game #714) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #714, are…
- UNDERSTANDING
- APPREHEND
- FATHOM
- UNDERSTAND
- REALIZE
- SPANGRAM: SEETHELIGHT
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 1 tip
Zs in words where we’d have Ss – as in today’s REALISÉ – is a problem for Strands players in the UK, but that’s no excuse for my slow play today (it’ll have a bit more to do with the hangover I’m getting).
“Now I get it!” are the words I often say to myself when I finally UNDERSTAND today’s theme, but I absolutely did not get it today and took a hint after finding half a dozen non-play words.
The word GRAB helped me, um, grasp the search at hand, although I’d argue that I might have fit this game better than GRAB – but then my fields of perception are decidedly blurred.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Saturday, February 14, Game #713)
- EMBRACE
- SNUGGLE
- TASTE
- PICK
- SMILE
- MUG
- SPANGRAM: HUG KISS
