Thunderstorms hit the city, Jinnah Terminal records 20mm

KARACHI:

Rain and hailstorms, with thunder and lightning, affected several parts of Karachi on Tuesday.

Rain was reported in Maripur, Mochko, Gulistan-e-Johar, Federal B Area, Malir, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and University Road, according to officials.

Hailstorms were reported in the airport area, Malir Cantt, Gulistan-e-Johar and Karimabad, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.

The highest rainfall of 20 mm was recorded at Jinnah Terminal. Nazimabad received 8.5mm, University Road 5.8mm, North Karachi 2.3mm, Bahria Town 2mm and Old Airport and Surjani Town 1mm each.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted light to moderate rain with thunder in Karachi on Tuesday.

Strong winds accompanied the rain, blowing from different directions at speeds of 10 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Humidity was recorded at 91 percent in the morning, with visibility at 600 meters, according to the department. The humidity is expected to be between 45 and 95 percent during the next 24 hours.

The minimum temperature in Karachi on Tuesday was 18.6°C, with Wednesday expected to be between 17°C and 19°C.

The maximum temperature on Monday was 27.7°C, with Tuesday expected to be between 26°C and 28°C.
