A seven-month-old Japanese macaque named Punch has won hearts around the world. But another thing that caught the eye was his famous plush.
The toy identified as the DJUNGELSKOG orangutan, a huggable plush from IKEA’s wildlife-themed children’s range with long flexible arms designed to mimic real monkeys.
The association with Punch sparked a surge in demand.
Punch was abandoned by his mother after his birth in July 2025 at the Ichikawa City Zoo near Tokyo.
To cope with the loneliness and abandonment, zookeepers introduced a soft toy as a substitute source of emotional security.
Since then, the baby monkey developed a deep attachment to the orange orangutan, constantly clinging to it as it eats, rests and explores its enclosure.
The JUNGLE orangutan retails for approximately $19.99 in the US, although online retailer prices have fluctuated with demand.
The orangutan version measures approximately 66cm in length and is primarily made from polyester fibres, with embroidered face details for added safety and durability.
The JUNGLE range itself has become one of IKEA’s most recognizable plush collections worldwide, along with other internet-famous toys such as its shark plush.

After toy sales increased, IKEA representatives visited the zoo and donated several toys to ensure the baby monkey always has a companion.
Fans have lovingly nicknamed the toy “Oran-Mama”.
