A knight of the seven kingdoms episode 6 is out now, and with its arrival, the show’s debut season has come to an end.
Six weeks after the increasingly popular show premiered, fans — including you, I bet — have fallen in love with its underdog pairing of Dunk and Egg. So HBO would be foolish to call time on their Westerosi adventure, right?
What happens to Dunk in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6?
Collecting where A knight of the seven kingdoms‘ The brutal and tragic fifth episode let loose, ‘The Morrow’ reunites us with a wounded Dunk. With a little ‘help’ from Lyonel Baratheon and his so-called useless Maester, Dunk is recovering from the wounds he sustained during the Trial of Seven.
Wracked with guilt over the death of Baelor Targaryen, Dunk refuses Lyonel’s offer to join him at Storm’s End. He further infuriates Lyonel by suggesting that House Baratheon’s commander-in-chief should show some respect for Baelor’s untimely demise after Lyonel claims that the only good Targaryen is a dead one.
Still, deeply ashamed of his role in Baelor’s death, Dunk arrives late for the Iron Throne’s funeral. There he exchanges words with Baelor’s firstborn son, the Valarr, who asks why the gods let Dunk live instead of Baelor – something Dunk strongly agrees with.
On the way back to camp, A knight of the seven kingdoms‘ titular character bumps into one of his new besties, Raymun. Raymun comforts Dunk with some kind words and a long hug, and he reveals that he is not only attached to local sex worker Rowan, but that she is now pregnant and the pair plan to marry. As a surprised Dunk tries to process the news, two Targaryen soldiers interrupt them and demand that Dunk follow them to meet with Prince Maekar.
After telling Dunk that he is sending Aerion to the Free Cities in the hope that the excursion will “change him for the better”, Maekar and Dunk’s chat soon becomes a terse one as they discuss their respective roles in Baelor’s death.
But playing the blame game isn’t why Maekar has summoned Dunk; in fact, he wants Egg to become Dunk’s official squire. The conditions? The duo take up residence at Summerhall, Dunk swears allegiance to House Targaryen and he teaches Egg how to squire. Maekar’s master-at-arms will also train Dunk to become an actual knight.
However, to the surprise of Maekar and the eavesdropping Egg, Dunk declines the invitation and leaves.
What is Egg doing in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ sixth episode?
As Dunk limps away, he crosses paths with Egg. As he sits his young protégé down, Dunk tells Egg that he can’t teach him how to levitate, presumably because of the bad luck he brings. This causes a disappointed egg to leave.
Upset at Dunk’s decision and quietly seething at Aerion’s decision to request the trial of seven who killed Baelor, Egg grabs a fishing knife and goes to his older brother’s chamber. There he plans to assassinate Aerion, who is bedridden and recovering from his injuries in the aforementioned battle.
Before Egg can commit the act, however, he is frightened by his father, Maekar, who is keeping an eye on his middle child. Maekar rises from his chair, walks over to Egg and silently comforts him: a move that causes Egg to drop the knife.
As the pair stand still, they are interrupted by a guard who informs Maekar that Dunk is requesting another audience with him.
How will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ season 1 finale end?
When he meets Maekar again, Dunk informs him that he has changed. The reasons? A memory of Dunk’s late mentor, Ser Arlan, telling him “a knight always finishes his story”, and a crucial conversation with Prince Daeron, Aerion and Egg’s alcoholic older brother, who claims that Egg will not grow up to be a righteous man if his family continues to sink their claws into him.
However, Dunk reveals that he will only accept Egg if Maekar agrees to one condition. Instead of the pair moving to Summerhall, Dunk wants Egg to travel the world with him, as Dunk did with Ser Arlan.
Unsurprisingly, Maekar rejects the proposal. Lamenting that Egg is “my last son”—a comment that suggests Maekar is well aware of how he’s failed Daeron and Aerion as a father—Maekar leaves.
Dunk returns to his camp outside Ashford Meadow and packs up to leave it forever. Before doing so, he gives Ser Arlan’s white horse, Sweetfoot, to Raymun, who had returned her to Dunk after he sold the horse to raise money for his tournament armor in Episode 2.
After the duo split up, Dunk nails a crown to the tree he’s been resting under since arriving to compete in the tournament. It’s also a small but significant gesture as it harkens back to the Ser Arlan memory I touched on earlier where Dunk’s mentor tells him the reason behind the ‘Pennytree’ title that hedge knights give themselves.
Dunk prepares to leave with his remaining horses, Thunder and Chestnut, but Egg suddenly appears and tells Dunk that Maekar has allowed him to accompany Dunk. Hooray!
As the duo head out to pastures new, they debate where to go first. The conversation leads to Egg amusingly informing Dunk that there are nine kingdoms, not seven (remember this for later). The last we see of Dunk and Egg is them driving past a golden wheat field, with the poignant memory of Ser Arlan temporarily accompanying them on Sweetfoot before turning 90 degrees and symbolically heading off in another direction. You know, because Dunk no longer needs him. I’m not tearful, you are!
Does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 end differently than The Hedge Knight?
In a way, yes. AKotSK‘s first season has been an almost flawless adaptation of the story depicted in The hedge knightalso known as the first entry in the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ short story trilogy. However, ‘The Morrow’ makes a subtle but important change to it The hedge knights narrative before it ends.
In the source material, Maekar actually agrees with Dunk that Egg should experience the outside world, and accepts Egg roaming across Westeros and beyond as Dunk’s squire. This is different from what happens in ‘The Morrow’ where, as I have already discussed, Maekar refuses to let Egg travel with Dunk.
At first, Maekar appears to have changed when Egg shows up at Dunk’s camp. In that sense AKotSK seems to end the same way The hedge knight do.
However, Episode 6’s final scene reveals the truth, with Maekar discovering that Egg is missing from the Targaryen caravan leaving Ashford Meadow. It is clear that Egg has not only run away from home, but also lied to Dunk about his father letting him travel across the continent with Dunk. I’m sure it won’t come back to bite them in the ass at some point…
Does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 have a mid-credit or post-credit scene?
No. Once this season’s final closing sequence has run its course, there are no further scenes to stick with.
Has HBO announced A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 yet?
Yes! HBO renewed A knight of the seven kingdoms for a second season in November 2025. The Thrones The spin-off was actually one of many HBO TV Originals that earned another installment at the end of last year.
Considering AKotSK season 2 is slated to arrive sometime in 2027, principal photography should be underway now — or in the very near future — for it to be ready for release next year. Luckily, showrunner Ira Parker confirmed while chatting with The AV Club that the cameras are already rolling, so we’ll definitely be seeing Season 2 in 2027.
Will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 be called A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms?
Of all this season’s big finale questions, this is the one I’m least confident in answering.
Why? Because the title card that appears before episode 6’s credits goes through — you know, the one that carries the words A knight of the nine kingdoms (AKotNK) — can be interpreted in one of two ways.
The first and most obvious is that AKotSK season 2 will be called AKotNK. However, this may cause confusion among viewers, who may expect the series’ next installment to retain its original title, albeit with the ‘season 2’ label.
The second possibility is that A knight of the nine kingdoms is just a humorous nod to Dunk not knowing that Thrones the universe comprises nine realms. AKotSK has been the most fun Thrones Show far, so this reference could be a way for Parker to make another joke before Season 1 ended.
I’m sure one of the Hollywood insiders will ask Parker about this in a finale interview after Season 1, so maybe we’ll know the answer when this article goes live. If not, I guess it will continue to be an interesting point of discussion among viewers. Oh, and get writers like me to refer to next season as both AKotSK season 2 and A knight of the nine kingdoms until it is finally released. I can’t wait…
