- A main character’s appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is leaked online
- The spoiler is part of a new story synopsis on a theater chain’s website
- Nintendo and Universal have yet to have it removed from said plot
Nintendo and Universal executives will scream “Waaaa!” today (February 23) after a main character’s appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (TSMGM) leaked online.
The animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, TSMGM‘s release is just over a month away at the time of publication. One of 2026’s many new films will be released in theaters on April 1.
Unfortunately for the legendary Japanese video game company and its film studio partner, however, one of the TSMGM‘s biggest surprises seem to have been accidentally revealed in advance. Full spoilers immediately follow, including in the screenshot below, for the upcoming film. Come back now if you don’t want to know anything else!
According to the website of British theater chain Everyman Cinema, none other than Wario, another of Mario’s staunchest enemies, is set to be a part of TSMGM‘s growing ensemble. Indeed, as the film’s description on the website reads, the legendary Italian plumber and his allies will have to deal with “Wario and Bowser Jr.’s evil alliance” as part of its primary narrative.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Bower Jr.’s involvement in the follow-up to one of 2024’s highest-grossing films. The confirmation of his role as antagonist-in-chief came as part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s official trailer reveal along with the news that writer/director Benny Safdie (Smash Machine, Uncut gems) would express him.
However, Wario’s big-screen debut was likely kept under wraps by Nintendo and Universal, so this leak will be a major blow to the pair’s plan to keep the longtime Mario adversary’s appearance a secret. At the time of this article’s publication at 15:00 GMT on Monday February 23rd, Wario hasn’t been removed from the action list either, so it’s possible that Nintendo and Universal aren’t aware that his appearance has even been spoiled.
Wario and Bowser Jr. aren’t the only Mario franchise characters to make their silver screen debut in TSMGM. Luma’s supreme protector, Princess Rosalina, is also set to star, with Marvel actress Brie Larson voicing her. Last month we also finally received our first look at Mario’s ally Yoshi, with the green dinosaur’s appearance being teased in The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s mid-credits scene.
Unfortunately for Donkey Kong fans, his name was missing from the cast when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s name and launch date were announced last September. Don’t expect to see the Mario villain-turned-ally appear in the latter’s next cinematic adventure.
While we wait for its release, find out everything we know so far The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Or, if you’re looking further ahead, you can get the full lowdown on The Legend of Zelda moviewhich will premiere in cinemas sometime in 2027.
