- AeroPress Steel is the company’s first all-metal coffee maker
- It is vacuum insulated and comes in two colours: Stainless and Black Stainless
- It’s available now direct from AeroPress for $169.95 (approx £130 / AU$240)
There’s a new AeroPress coffee maker in town with a tough metal construction and extra large brewing capacity. The AeroPress Steel is made of corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel (including the brewer’s body, measuring spoon and agitator), with double-walled insulation to keep your drink warm and prevent the outside of the brewing chamber from getting hot.
The AeroPress Steel is also larger than your typical brewer with a 20% larger capacity than the original AeroPress or AeroPress Go. It comes in two colors: original stainless and black stainless.
The AeroPress is one of my all-time favorite on-the-go coffee makers (it’s a big part of my Best Camping Coffee Makers list). It’s lightweight, packs down small and is super easy to use, requiring nothing more than ground coffee, hot water and a small filter paper (readily available online and from outdoor gear stores).
To use your AeroPress, simply place a filter paper in the perforated filter cap, screw it onto the brewing chamber and place it on top of your cup. Add coffee grounds and hot water, let it steep, then place the stamp on top and press firmly.
The feeling of steel
Unlike some other portable coffee makers, no pumping is needed to create pressure, and the resulting brew is strong and smooth. You can tinker with grinder size and brew time to get the optimal flavor from your beans, and AeroPress even sells a hand-ground grinder with titanium burrs for on-the-go grinding.
The AeroPress Steel feels reassuringly robust, and its vacuum-insulated chamber provides better heat retention than other models. It is even dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.
That durability doesn’t come cheap, though; The AeroPress Steel is now on sale direct from AeroPress for $169.95 (approx £130 / AU$240). However, it’s still smaller than the AeroPress Premium, which is made from a combination of glass, stainless steel and aluminum and is priced at $199.95 / £169.95 / AU$299.
