- The first full trailer for the Taylor Sheridan show The Madison has officially been released
- Follows the Clyburns as they uproot their comfortable New York City lives for the wild, untamed beauty of Montana’s Madison River Valley
- Not connected to Yellowstone despite initial reports
The day has finally arrived, fellow Taylor Sheridan fans – the first full trailer for the new series Madison just dropped (and you can catch up below).
Starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, we’re set to follow the Clyburn family as they uproot their comfortable New York City lives for the wild, untamed beauty of Montana’s Madison River Valley. The series will be a Paramount+ exclusive from March 14 with six episodes.
Before seeing the trailer, I was expecting something similar to Sheridan’s upcoming shows Marshals and Dutton Ranch. We know that now Madison not attached to Yellowstone despite early reports, but it wasn’t too far-fetched to think that some cowboy drama and potential shootouts were in the mix.
However, the trailer reveals a different story, and it’s one that reminds me of Netflix’s most successful original series of all time.
Opinion: Madison’s first look feels like Virgin River with Taylor Sheridan’s cowboy style
If you removed Madison cast and plopped Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson in the same rustic cabin you see above, it almost feels like you’d have the exact same show as Virgin River. Even the typography and carved images of luscious mountains and waterfalls are a mirror image.
The last thing I expected Sheridan to do was take his new project down the cozy drama route, but that’s exactly why we should never underestimate him.
Try to sum up the above trailer in a single word and you’ll probably land on the right foot. This is clearly not a family at war, like the Duttons, but one with hope and love at its core, leaning into a slower pace of life. If anything, it’s the best surprise Sheridan could ever spring upon us.
Honestly, my mom will be thrilled that Sheridan has traded blood and swearing for emotional drama and bird watching. She is part of a core Virgin River fanbase that I suspect will migrate to Montana along with the Clyburns and that’s a huge win for Paramount+.
Sheridan’s ratings already speak for themselves (that’s how we got Farmer season 3 confirmed this early, after all), but something more light-hearted is the only type of TV show he doesn’t have in his arsenal.
If you can’t beat ’em, come with ’em… and I don’t suspect it will be too long before the Sheridanverse is hot on Netflix’s cozy drama heels.
