- More details about the Apple Studio Display 2 have leaked
- 32-inch and 27-inch models could be on the way
- Apple has several product launches lined up for next week
We have more rumored details about possible successors to the Apple Studio Display, and it looks like two models are on the way, potentially offering different sizes and specs to tempt discerning display buyers.
The new information comes from Macworld (via MacRumors), and is based on “internal Apple files”. Two models are referenced in these files, codenamed J427 and J527, suggesting that two different Studio Display 2 variations are on the way.
We may be seeing both a 32-inch and a 27-inch Apple Display Studio 2, according to the report, with the larger model offering a superior sound system and improved port selection, as well as the extra screen space.
Both models are apparently set to get ProMotion support for refresh rates up to 120Hz, while HDR support on both also looks likely. At least one Thunderbolt 5 port supporting a 5K resolution at 120Hz has been mentioned.
A launch next week?
Regarding the design, we do not expect any changes and no aesthetic tweaks are mentioned in this report. The current Apple Studio Display offers a 27-inch screen and is up to 58.3 cm (23 inches) tall, depending on the stand you get.
This latest report follows up on several previous leaks surrounding this upgraded display. Given that the first model came out in 2022, a second-generation model is clearly on the way, potentially featuring a switch to mini-LED technology for its display.
In early February, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that delivery times for the Studio Display were starting to slip, suggesting that an update is on the way with an upgraded internal chip — possibly the A19 used in the iPhone 17.
Gurman figured a new model could appear sometime near the start of March — and wouldn’t you know it, Apple has a big week of product announcements coming up starting on Monday. Watch this space.
