HYDERABAD:

Protests erupted across Sindh on Sunday to condemn the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and US and Israeli attacks on the neighboring country. Religious leaders and party officials took to the streets, while Sindhi nationalist parties also condemned what they described as an unjust war imposed on Iran.

Jamaat-e-Islami organized a symbolic Namaz-e-Janaza for Khamenei at Koh-e-Noor Chowk in Hyderabad. The Milli Yakjahti Council, which represents several religious parties, announced nationwide protests to mourn Khamenei. Council leader Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair led an online rally in Hyderabad before unveiling the demonstration plans. He accused US President Donald Trump of being the “key architect of this evil conspiracy,” saying the US is using “lies, deception and aggression to deceive the world.” Zubair also condemned the imposition of war against Muslim countries during the holy month of Ramazan and warned that nuclear-armed Pakistan could also become a target.

Protests were also staged by the Shia Ulema Council, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen, Asgharia Students Organization, Imamia Students Organization, Jafaria Students Organization and other groups in major and minor cities of Sindh expressing solidarity with the Iranian people. President of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek Ayaz Latif Palijo expressed grief over the martyrdom of Khamenei and hundreds of innocent Iranians, including women and children, and blamed the US for “trying to set the world on fire” and for attacking countries to control their oil.

Sindh Taraqi Pasand’s party chairman, Dr. Qadir Magsi, stated that the people of Sindh are in full support of Iran against the unprovoked attack. He called Khamenei “a courageous man of principle who never bowed to imperialist powers.”

Awami Tehreek president, lawyer Vasand Thari, said “Khamenei’s martyrdom will write a new chapter in human history of resistance to global imperialism,” and condemned violations of international law and human rights by the US and Israel.

The protests highlighted widespread outrage in Sindh, where religious and political leaders called for justice, solidarity with Iran and peaceful demonstration against what they described as an imperialist attack.
