James Cameron creates excitement for ‘Avatar 3’

James Cameron gives Avatar fans a heads-up for the upcoming third sequel.

The Oscar-winning director, 70, dropped some hints Wednesday during a recent interview with Empire Magazine.

“It’s a tricky thing,” Cameron said when asked about what to expect from the latest installment of the film Avatar franchise.

“We can get high on our own supply here, and anyone looking at it [the new film] says, ‘F***, that’s not what I signed up for.’ “

“But if you don’t make bold choices, you’re wasting everyone’s time and money,” he continued, adding, “That alone isn’t sufficient to create success, but it’s necessary. You have to break the mold every time.”

The veteran filmmaker also warned that some scenarios in the upcoming sequel may take audiences to “places they won’t expect,” but added that those places “will feel earned.”

“We have some really clever action balloons,” he told the magazine. “You can get your blood pumping in this movie. But what excites me as an artist who recently turned 70 and has kind of done all that is not only the opportunity to get to do it again, but to reach a level of character and intrigue that you have not seen before in one Avatar film.”

Cameron also gave an inside look at the production phase, saying the film is in “strong shape”.

“We’ve doubled the number of completed shots at this stage of the game than we had on film two [and] the films are about the same length. So that puts us well ahead of the curve, which is something I’ve honestly never experienced before.”

“We’re getting to the point where we’re actually getting good at this,” he said with a laugh.

Avatar 3: Fire and Ashes is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
