Four-year-old killed when water tanker hits motorcycle in Manghopir

Rescue officials said the deceased, Hassan, died on the spot after the tanker hit the motorcycle

KARACHI:

A four-year-old child was killed and three others injured after a water tanker rammed into a motorcycle near the Ilyas Mosque at Manghopir Ijtema Gah on Saturday, rescue officials said.

According to rescue authorities, the deceased child was identified as Hassan, while the injured include 18-year-old Sharjeel, 15-year-old Fatima and seven-year-old Abdullah. The victims were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after the accident.

Police and eyewitnesses said the water tanker, which was coming from the wrong side of the road, hit the motorcycle carrying the children.

The accident happened while the children were on their way to school. Hassan was traveling from Manghopir to Gulshan-e-Bahar School with his siblings, officials said, adding that the child died on the spot.

After the incident, local residents caught the tanker driver and handed him over to the police.

Residents of the area said accidents involving heavy vehicles are frequent in the locality, adding that this was the fourth such incident in the city in the past three days where trucks, trailers or water tankers hit motorcyclists.

On Friday in Gulistan-e-Johar, two dump trucks, which were reportedly racing each other, collided with several motorcycles and cars. Earlier on Wednesday, a trailer near Karimabad Furniture Market crushed two brothers who were riding a motorcycle, resulting in their death.
