Prince William appeared to have found himself digging into the archives as he marked Mothering Sunday this year with an emotional tribute to his beloved mother, Princess Diana.
The Prince of Wales took to his company to share a rare photo from his private collection which has reportedly never been made public.
Surrounded by a field of flowers, the vintage photo shows a two-year-old William with his late mother, dressed in a light pink blouse and jeans, sharing a sweet moment.
“Remember my mom, today and everyday,” William wrote alongside the heartwarming photo. “Thinking of all those who remember someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day.”
The message was signed by the unmistakable “W”, meaning that the Prince of Wales had actually written the message.
Prince William and Prince Harry both shared a strong connection to their mother, and Diana’s influence is still reflected in the princes’ actions today.
For both Harry and William, Diana has inspired charitable initiatives. Harry had started Sentebale (which he has now left due to ‘boardroom battles’), while William heads Homewards, based on the values Diana had instilled in them.
Although William has spoken about Diana many times in the past, this particular post feels rather unexpected and a little more vulnerable for the royal.
William had admitted that he was not in a ‘calm state’ as the royal family faces one of its biggest crises, so it is possible that the future king may have missed his mother a little more than usual.
