ISLAMABAD:

A luxury vehicle worth Rs 90 million was bought for the Chairman of the Senate from the Senate budget, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani has confirmed.

According to details, the expensive vehicle was purchased from the Senate budget and has already reached the Senate Secretariat in Pakistan, sources said.

When contacted by Express News regarding the purchase, Gilani confirmed that the car had been purchased. “Yes, we bought the car from the Senate budget, but it was ordered last May,” he said.

He explained that the vehicle had been ordered using savings from the Senate budget for the previous year. Gilani added that he had tried to return the vehicle in light of the country’s current economic situation, but was told that the car had already arrived.

Earlier in June, Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had stated in Parliament that the Senate Chairman and Speaker of the National Assembly received a monthly salary of Rs 2.15 million.

At the time, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had objected, saying the massive increase in the salaries of the Chairman of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly and others amounted to “financial obscenity”.
