- DC fans are worried about the upcoming HBO Max show Booster gold
- Its showrunner no longer appears to be involved, sparking fears it may have been cancelled
- DC Studios co-head James Gunn has yet to comment on the rumor
DC comics fans have been divided over the future of the DC Universe (DCU) television show Booster gold.
The live-action series, which was one of the myriad projects announced as part of DCU Chapter One in January 2023, appears to have suffered a major setback after its showrunner dropped a big hint that they were no longer involved.
In fact, as first discovered last Sunday (March 15) by X/Twitter fan account DCdaily (see below), David Jenkins deleted every single Booster Gold-related post he had made on his personal Instagram account. Jenkins was hired as Booster gold‘s showrunner last July with Our flag means death the creator also tapped to write its pilot episode.

It looks like the Booster Gold project may not be happening as David Jenkins has deleted all of his posts related to the show and has also unfollowed James Gunn. DC Studios co-head James Gunn hasn’t commented on Jenkins’ rumored departure yet β and I’m guessing he won’t either.
Sure, Gunn has made a habit of confirming and denying speculation about various DCU projects on his social channels. However, he never publicly acknowledged that Jenkins was given the reins for this HBO Max TV show, so I’d be surprised if he filmed to clarify the truth behind this particular piece of gossip.

Understandably, the big question on DC fans’ minds now is this: has Booster gold been scrapped internally, or is Jenkins’ apparent departure a relatively small problem in the grand scheme of things?
Right now, there doesn’t seem to be a consensus among the wider fanbase. There are those who fear for the overall fate of this DCU Chapter One production, but there are just as many people who believe that there is nothing to worry about.
After all, Gunn and studio colleague Peter Safran have regularly stated that announced projects won’t go into full production unless they’re happy with a movie’s script or a show’s scripts. For the latter audience, then, it is likely that Jenkins’ original draft was not up to scratch.
that’s why i trust james gunn they’ll straight up just cancel something if the script isn’t good enough they don’t green light something not worth doing https://t.co/ocJ9yml1vOMarch 15, 2026
It is an attitude which on the surface is difficult to argue against. However, it has been over three years Booster gold was first announced, so concerns about its development β especially eight months after it secured a showrunner β shouldn’t be dismissed so easily.
Furthermore, the collection of movies and shows that will comprise DCU Chapter One, otherwise known as ‘Gods and Monsters’, has been added since the initial reveal of the lineup.
Film-wise, a sequel to the 2025s Superman called The man of tomorrow, Clayfaceand one Wonder Woman flick has been added to chapter 1’s list. Meanwhile, on the TV front, a Superman spin-off series starring Jimmy Olsen, an animated version of Tom Kings Mister Miracle cartoon series, and Creature Commandos Season 2 has also been given the green light.
With many of these projects apparently being prioritized over others, i.a Booster goldfans of the time-traveling superhero wannabe are rightly concerned about the status of his first-ever live-action portrayal. All eyes are on Gunn and Safran to see if it is still in active development.
