ISLAMABAD:

Senior PTI leaders on Wednesday announced the launch of a post-Eid movement aimed at securing the release of the party’s founding chairman Imran Khan and restoring what they described as constitutional rule in the country.

The drive has been named “PTI Founder Release Peace Movement”.

Addressing a press conference, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja said that the movement would begin after Eid and will be conducted in a peaceful manner. He said millions of young Pakistanis faced disillusionment amid rising poverty and a deteriorating economy. “It is our duty to steer Pakistan in the right direction. The youth of this country will play their role in pulling it out of the crisis,” he said.

Raja added that the main goals of the movement included the “restoration of the constitution and the rule of law”, the release of PTI’s founding chairman and “genuine freedom” for every Pakistani. He said the justice system had “collapsed” and thousands of citizens were imprisoned in what he called trumped-up cases.
