- Avengers: Doomsday‘s release date may change again
- An insider has claimed that Marvel executives have discussed such a possibility
- This time, however, it can move up a week to avoid Dune: Part 3
Avengers: Doomsday‘s launch date is reportedly set to move again – but this time it could be not only a welcome change, but a very significant one.
According to industry insider John Campea, Marvel is seriously considering moving up its release by one week to December 11, 2026. Currently, Doomsday is set to hit theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026.
Originally scheduled to arrive on May 1, 2025, Avengers 5 was pushed back a year to May 2, 2026 due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. So last May, the comic titan further delayed one of the year’s most exciting new movies to allow more time for production.

But with the latest release date locked in, fans quickly realized Doomsday would go head-to-head with another long-awaited sequel in Dune: Part 3. The latter film, which is expected to conclude the epic sci-fi film trilogy starring Timothy Chalament and Zendaya, is also set to hit theaters worldwide on December 18.
In a move reminiscent of ‘Barbenheimer’ – the theatrical phenomenon that saw Barbie and Oppenheimer released on the same day in July 2023 – audiences have since dubbed December 18, 2026 as ‘Dunesday’. Like ‘Barbenheimer’, some theaters have already stated that they will participate in ‘Dunesday’, where those people prepare to see side-by-side screenings of the Marvel and Warner Bros. films.
Now, however, Campea has suggested that those fans might want to revisit those plans amid rumors that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie might not be released on that date after all.
Why Avengers: Doomsday may be released a week earlier than expected
On the latest edition of The John Campea Show, its host – whose track record can be described as mixed to fairly accurate – revealed what he has heard about a potential date change.
Campea begins by reminding his listeners of that Jumanji 3which was supposed to drop on December 11th, now opens on December 25th (aka Christmas Day). The reason? People will probably save their money to see Doomsday and/or Dune 3. Moves the next one Jumanji the film’s release until that couple is out, then it seems like a smart move.
Of course, that opens up a December 11 slot — and according to Campea, who cites an article by The Wrap and the latest edition of The Big Picture Podcast that similarly discusses a revision of the release date, it represents a perfect opportunity for Marvel.
If Doomsday and Dune 3 still lands on December 18th, the Marvel Phase 6 film will be at a major disadvantage because Warner Bros. has already locked down an exclusive three-week window for every single IMAX screen. At least that’s the case in the US – it will be available in IMAX in some international territories, but definitely not stateside.
You don’t need me to tell you that’s a big deal for Marvel, who would have hoped to entice audiences to see the next Avengers movie on the biggest and tallest screens possible. But if Marvel Studios moves Doomsdaylaunched with a week, it will ensure at least seven days of IMAX ticket revenue. Also, if fans want to see the superhero sizzle on the best screen possible, they flock to see it in IMAX before Dune 3 debuting a week later.
Right now it’s all just speculation. But after Campea reached out to one of his sources, he was told that “discussions have taken place” among Marvel executives about potential change Avengers: Doomsday‘s release date.
So will it? Marvel Studios is very secretive about things at the best of times, so we won’t know if this rumor had any legs until the comics giant officially announces a launch date change on social media. Until then, your guess is as good as mine. In the meantime, find out everything we know so far Avengers: Doomsday.
