The Sindh government is set to launch a drive against smart number plates from April 1 as the traffic police will crack down on fake, smart and unregistered vehicles.

According to standards set by the Sindh government, fancy, fake and unregistered vehicles will face action, with the traffic police targeting vehicles that do not have number plates.

Strict action was decided against those who were driving a car or motorcycle without number plates. The traffic police mandated that motorcyclists must have number plates mounted both at the front and at the back.

Citizens who have not yet received official number plates from the Tax Agency were advised to use number plates with the official government design.

The intervention would involve personnel from the district police, the traffic police, the Citizens’ Police Cooperation Committee, the Ministry of Taxation and the Driving License Department.

It was also decided that drivers without a driving license should be issued a learner driving license on the spot.

Owners of vehicles and motorcycles without number plates would be given 24 hours to get new number plates made, after which confiscated vehicles and motorcycles would be released without penalty.
