- Google is upgrading the storage quota for its AI Pro subscription tier
- Users will now get access to 5 TB of storage compared to the previous 2 TB cap
- This is a free upgrade and the plan will still cost $19.99/£18.99 per month
Google is upgrading its $20-a-month AI Pro plan with even more storage, but the best part is that it’s not going to cost you more than what you’re already paying—which may be why you’re not signing up for ChatGPT.
In a post shared to X (see below), VP of Google Photos and Google One Shimrit Ben-Yair announced that the tech giant is upgrading the AI Pro plan’s storage quota from 2TB to 5TB for free — more than double. “We know your memories and projects need room to grow,” she said, adding, “Now you have a little extra space to create more with Google AI and safely save more of the memories that matter most.”
Sweet news for our Google AI Pro subscribers! 🚀 We know your memories and projects need room to grow, so we’re expanding Google AI Pro’s storage offering from 2 TB to 5 TB – at no extra cost. The company offers a range of monthly Google One plans, starting with Basic ($1.99/ £1.59/ AU$2.99), Standard ($2.99/ £2.49/ AU$4.49) and Premium ($9.99/ £7.99/ AU$14.99), which allow you to expand your cloud storage across Google’s services. It also offers three AI plans that combine the added storage benefit with access to Gemini tools. These include AI Plus ($7.99/$6.99/AU$12.49), AI Pro ($19.99/$18.99/AU$32.99) and the very expensive AI Ultra ($249.99/£234.99/ AU$409.99).

Google’s AI Pro plan is already a jam-packed offering, giving you higher accessibility to Gemini tools like Deep Research and image generation and editing with Nano Banana Pro, not to mention you’ll also have increased access to NotebookLM’s wealth of features – so the free storage boost comes as a very generous upgrade.
While Google has rolled out its free storage boost, rival service ChatGPT has its own Plus plan that costs the same as Google’s but doesn’t offer additional storage the way Google’s plan does. While it doesn’t have Google’s range of additional services that require extra storage, such as Photos and Drive, ChatGPT isn’t explicit about how much storage it offers across each of its plans, as well as how much access you get to its list of models and features.
Not sure which service to choose? Here’s how Google’s plans compare to ChatGPT’s in terms of pricing.
