Earthquake tremors felt in Twin Cities, KP

Islamabad’s police chief instructs all officers to assess the situation in their respective areas; epicenter in Afghanistan

Tremors from a magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook the twin cities and parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday evening.

A statement from the Pakistan Meteorological Department said the earthquake occurred at 21.13 at a depth of 190 kilometers with the epicenter in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.

It added that tremors were felt in Islamabad, Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, Shangla and other areas.

Severe tremors were felt in the federal capital prompting Islamabad police to take immediate action.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi directed all officers to assess the situation in their respective areas. He instructed that any incident requiring assistance must be responded to immediately.

The IGP also ordered all officers to submit situation reports from their jurisdictions without delay.

A statement by KP Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said: “Earthquake tremors were felt in various districts of KP including Peshawar, but Rescue 1122 control has not received any calls from the public yet.”
