Kieran Trippier bids emotional farewell to Newcastle as trophy-winning chapter ends

Kieran Trippier makes surprise but emotional Newcastle departure.

Kieran Tripper’s exit marks the end of an era at the Saudi-owned club.

Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a £12m deal from Atletico Madrid that helped boost their performances.

Newcastle was taken over by the Saudi Arabian in October 2021.

He played in over 150 games for the club, scoring four goals and was a member of the Carabao Cup winning team that crushed Liverpool at Wembley in March 2025.

Eddie Howe’s side are set for a summer overhaul at a time when there are doubts the manager will reach his fifth anniversary at St. James’ Park until November.

The 35-year-old right back said so in an interview that appeared on the portal of his departure club, Newcastle.

Emotional Trippier said: “The time has come to leave this great club after four and a half years.”

“This is where I’ve felt most at home. It’s emotional and I’m really going to miss it.”

“I would like to say a big thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good times and the bad.

“You have always supported me, always stood by me.”

Fighting back tears, he said: “To my teammates, it’s going to be emotional. It’s been an amazing journey with you.

“I’m going to miss you guys. I’m going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you was really, really special – the best of my career.”

Trippier then turned his gratitude to Howe, adding: “And to the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a big thank you.

“I’m going to miss everyone at the club. Thank you.”

Tripper retired from the Three Lions in August 2024, having been triumphant in major tournaments.
