Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong on Monday, the Foreign Ministry wrote in a post on X. “Discussions centered on the latest developments after the Islamabad talks,” the ministry said.

It added that Dar “reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued willingness to support dialogue and diplomacy,” adding that “Ambassador Jiang praised Pakistan’s important role in facilitating direct talks between the United States and Iran.”

“Both sides reaffirmed the strong Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperation Partnership,” the ministry concluded.

Separately, Dar also chaired a meeting with Foreign Minister Amna Baloch and other officials of the Ministry of External Affairs to commend their hard work, commitment and professionalism during the “Islamabad Talk”.

According to an official statement, Dar “appreciated their contribution to facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States,” which the ministry said was “an important step toward constructive engagement and promoting peace and stability.”

Senior leaders from the United States and Iran arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for high-stakes talks that followed a devastating six-week war that left thousands dead and pushed the global economy to the brink of recession.

Dar stressed in the aftermath of the talks that the US and Iran should continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire as the talks ended without an agreement. “It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire,” Dar said during a press release.

Although no agreement was reached, Pakistan’s role in bringing both the US and Iran to the negotiating table has drawn praise from both countries and beyond.

US Vice President JD Vance, after his departure from Islamabad, praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Defense Chief and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling both “incredible hosts.”

Vance added, “whatever the shortcomings of the negotiations were, they were not because of the Pakistanis, who did a fantastic job and really tried to help us and the Iranians bridge the gap and reach an agreement.”

In the aftermath of the talks, US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social that the meeting took place “through the kind and very competent leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan,” describing them as “extraordinary men.”

The Iranian delegation also extended its appreciation to Pakistan, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei expressing their gratitude for Pakistan facilitating the talks.
