Not to be confused with the 1994 live-action film or the animated sequel from the same year, there are nods to pretty much every element of the franchise – and fans are absolutely alive for cinema’s return to its goofy era.
‘It’s like they understood exactly what we wanted this film to be’

“If anything else, I appreciate them just leaning into the fact that this is a completely absurd movie,” notes one Reddit user as a second weighs in, “I cried like a baby when I saw the trailer for Street Fighter movie yesterday… an overwhelming sense of nostalgia completely overcame me.”
“So it’s a crazy dystopian 90s technicolor nightmare with absurd fights and a stupid as stone story? It’s beautiful. They figured it out,” agrees a third.
Sure enough, that one Street Fighter the film looks … lightly … at complex narrative. But we don’t keep an eye on that, do we? We want people to get smarter and look like our 90s toys while doing it.
Not only will such a true-to-game adaptation please die-hard fans, but it’s also more likely to perform better. I sense A Minecraft movie record levels in the not too distant future.
