Netflix has released the first trailer for the new film Ladies First (which you can follow below), and it’s safe to say that the first look has not gone down well.

may truly be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen. Rosamund Pike’s agent to be jailed https://t.co/dQyu3LkjPuApril 16, 2026
Already being called “the worst trailer I’ve ever seen” by fans online, Ladies First appears to be an English-language remake of the French 2018 film I am not an easy man.
Yet there is another broad irony that we have not even considered.
Ladies First trailer branded ‘incredibly depressing’ by Netflix fans
First, let’s dig a little deeper into these fans’ reactions. One posted on X/Twitter, “No wonder there are massive layoffs in Hollywood right now,” with another agreeing: “I feel like this script might have been on the shelf for a while.”
“This concept would have gone down so hard in 1987,” says a third.
But even if the narrative doesn’t resonate with fans online, there’s something else to consider. Parody films are something Baron Cohen is both suited to and known for. But for Pike, it’s more of a surprise move, especially given her current success at the National Theatre Inter Aliawhich is currently streaming on the company’s At Home platform internationally.

Still on London’s West End before moving to Broadway later in 2026, Pike plays Jessica, a trailblazing Crown Court judge who balances a high-powered career with the emotional labor of motherhood.
When her teenage son is accused of serious sexual assault, she faces a crisis that tests her feminist principles and legal beliefs against her maternal instincts.
Having both projects released back-to-back seems even more jarring, especially considering how much critical and fan success Inter Alia is currently receiving.
We can see Ladies First on May 22, so the full reactions have yet to be determined.
