‘We need to bridge the gap as soon as possible’: Google’s Sergey Brin says Gemini is behind Claude in key AI field, according to leaked memo

  • Google is reportedly creating an AI strike team to challenge Claude Code
  • The company wants to build AI agents that can help with coding and research
  • Still, the result may never be released to the public

One of the most significant ways in which AI is changing the world is through the emergence of AI agents that can write code. Instead of spending hours creating and debugging code, programmers are now able to simply ask an AI model to come to work for them.

Google’s Gemini AI is quite adept at this, but it’s not good enough for the company, which has reportedly been so rattled by the advances of rival Anthropics and its Claude Code AI agent that Google has formed a “strike team” to tackle the problem.
