Olivia Rodrigo shared more insight about her upcoming album, you seem quite upset with a girl so in lovein a new interview, sharing the challenges she felt while writing from a place of happiness, rather than heartbreak unlike her first two albums.
The 23-year-old pop superstar said she felt challenged as she approached her piano and tried to write about her happiness as she was in her first romantic relationship at the time.
“When I set out to fix this album… it felt like a challenge to write something that felt meaningful, and writing a song about happiness is a lot harder than writing a song about heartbreak, I think,” Rodrigo told the hosts in a since-viral video.
The Grammy winner went on to say that she then challenged herself “to make a love song and also talk about the negative emotions that come with being in a romantic relationship like longing and longing and jealousy and missing your partner when they’re gone, and so that was the challenge for me to marry those two worlds.”
Fans excited about the album, out on June 12, flocked to the comments, sharing their anticipation to listen to the full record, with one writing, “this album is breaking me in two, it’s not even fun.”
Another joked, “this album feels a bit like being run over by a truck I already know,” and “you know she’s going to cook on this album,” chimed in a third.
The Vampire singer has so far released a single from the album, Drop Deadwhich already rules the streaming charts.
