- A trailer for the new horror film was released last month
- Backrooms plays in cinemas from 29 May
Backrooms is the highly anticipated new film from A24, and some recently released images have me feeling even more excited for it.
In March was Backrooms The trailer was finally revealed and I noted that it felt like a perfect adaptation of the Creepypasta story. With Kane Parsons directing it, I’m confident it will be in good hands as he’s already brought the story to life through his YouTube series.
9 more new images have been published Backroomsbut one in particular has really stood out to me and troubled me more than I expected. Let’s discuss my favorite image of the set below.

This single Backrooms image has left me very uneasy
As far as teaser images go, the above was by far the most disturbing to me. We see Renate Reinsve standing in front of a house, which would be quite an ordinary setting if it weren’t for the horrible yellow background we’ve come to deal with Backrooms lore.
At first glance, it’s easy to miss that she’s actually in the Backroom until you focus on the yellow color when reality hits. I’m very interested in the context of this scene and why they’ve gone for a suburban feel here. Is it to trick characters into thinking they are safe? Does anyone live here?

The mystery of Backrooms is endlessly interesting because it’s so easy to jump in and delve into what fans have written about it and expand on its history. We don’t know what lurks in here, if anything, which is the most disturbing thing to me.
Taking something ordinary and making it feel strange is a big part of liminal horror, like Finish 8which I gave a four star review to. Plus, I interviewed director Genki Kawamura and learned why he’s excited about it Backrooms film.
The countdown is on Backroomsand we won’t have to wait long as it hits theaters on May 29. Are you brave enough to venture inside?
