LONDON: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, will give up his charge and return to Islamabad, according to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It has been learned that Dr. Faisal will drop his charge by April 27. He had assumed the role in August 2023.

Sources confirmed that Tipu Usman has been nominated as his successor. He is currently serving as Chief of Protocol to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A formal agreement on his appointment has already been sent to the British authorities and his secondment is expected to begin soon.

Dr. An experienced career diplomat, Faisal oversaw Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with the UK during a period marked by both cooperation and challenges across political and diaspora fronts.

Dr. Faisal has served in several important positions. He was formerly the spokesman for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany before coming to the UK.

He rose to fame during last year’s brief war between India and Pakistan. Dr. Faisal won praise for performing on BBC, Sky News and other channels and effectively defended Pakistan’s position. Before that, he became a regular face in the British media defending Pakistan against India’s claims about the Pahalgaam attacks.
