A day after OpenAI revealed that Microsoft would no longer be its exclusive cloud partner (but would still be a priority partner), the ChatGPT maker has announced a new deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
As part of the agreement, GPT and other related models will be available on AWS via Amazon Bedrock for the first time, and the Codex agent can also be integrated into AWS environments.
This expansion comes weeks after Amazon announced a “multi-year strategic partnership” with OpenAI that would see it invest $50 billion in the company.

OpenAI and AWS deepen their partnership
Under this agreement, OpenAI would consume 2GW of Trainium capacity through AWS infrastructure, and the two companies would develop custom models together to power Amazon’s customer-facing applications. This eight-year deal itself was an extension of an earlier deal worth a total of $138 billion.
The latest development puts OpenAI models directly into Bedrock, alongside alternatives from Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, Cohere, Amazon and “other leading providers.” It includes OpenAI’s “best boundary model,” GPT-5.5.
Putting OpenAI’s models directly into Bedrock means customers still have access to AWS enterprise features like IAM access control, private networking, encryption, firewalls, and AWS CloudTrail logging.
Amazon is particularly happy to integrate Codex, noting its four million weekly users, noting its availability with the Codex CLI, the Codex desktop app, and the Visual Studio Code extension.
Codex on Bedrock, as well as the availability of OpenAI models and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI, are all available in limited preview for now.
AWS described the latest news as just “the beginning of a deeper collaboration,” and with Microsoft’s exclusivity off the table, it could also be the start of many more for OpenAI.
