Marvel fans have been left scratching their heads Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s place in Marvel’s timeline after new story details recently emerged.
Yesterday (April 29), Entertainment Weekly (EW) revealed how the Marvel movie will begin by releasing the first three pages of the script.
The script, which has been annotated by director Destin Daniel Cretton, stars Tom Holland and Zendaya and other department heads, offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making a film of this scale.

Of all the interesting things that the script reveals about Spider-Man 4however, the opening sequence is a small but crucial plot detail halfway down the very first page that has caught the collective eye of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fanbase. Under the subheading that reads “Int[erior] Peter’s apartment – Day’, the script reveals Brand new daythe story begins nine months after its ancestors – Spider-Man: No Way Home — concluded.
It is this specific element that has fans wondering. Why? Because when Sony released an official plot brief alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s first trailer in mid-March, said synopsis confirmed that Peter Parker’s next solo adventure would be set four years after No way home.
Given that Spider-Man’s final film took place in late 2024, Brand new day should be set sometime in the year 2028, but the ‘nine months later’ line indicates it will open in mid to late 2025 – so what’s going on?
Spider-Man: Brand New Days Marvel Timeline Position Explained
Fortunately, there is a very simple explanation that clears up this particular riddle – and the key to answering it lies on the third page of the manuscript, the last sentence of which reads ‘Begin montage’.
What does that mean? Spider-Man: Brand New Day may begin sometime in 2025, but its primary plot will take place in 2028.
In fact, its opening sequence will reunite us with Tom Holland’s webslinger in 2025. But the subsequent montage, which should show Spidey fighting and defeating countless criminals we’ve seen in The Marvel Phase 6 movie’s first trailer, like Tarantula and Boomerang, will catch us up on what Spidey has been up to since we last saw him before Brand new days primary narrative starts. In that sense, then, the montage will function as a time jump between its opening scene and the present-day story that follows.
