May 2026 has arrived, but the fifth month of the year hasn’t exploded out of the gate when it comes to new streaming releases.
In fact, new movies and series are at a real premium on the world’s top streaming services this weekend. In fact, we’re scraping the barrel so much that we’ve had to include an MGM+ TV series that originally debuted on a lesser-known streamer called Network. You’d think they’d use their latest movie and TV offerings to give us more to choose from…

Wuthering Heights (HBO Max)

Staying true to the Emily Brontë novel, we follow the toxic love affair between well-to-do Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) and gruff outsider Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi), which grows more intense, destructive and obsessive as the two grow up.

Apple TV sure loves its genre mash-up projects, and this new dark comedy-horror show is no exception.
Widow’s Bay follows Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), the newly elected mayor of the titular island town, who has big ambitions to turn Widow’s Bay into the next big American tourist attraction. The only things standing in his way are its eccentric locals, antiquated infrastructure… oh, and countless supernatural entities that inhabit this supposedly cursed settlement.

Man on Fire (Netflix)

Wonder Man‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars in this new Netflix action show based on the book’s namesake. In it, he plays John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary with PTSD who is now trying to live a simpler life.
It isn’t quite so simple though, as his attempt at a fresh start is rudely interrupted by a need for revenge. You know how it goes with shows like this! Prime Video prides itself on Spanish-language drama House of Spiritswhich is based on Isabel Allende’s international bestselling novel.

Netflix tends to play down its animated releases, but when they do appear, they’re almost always an understated banger.
The booty is no exception, following a small forest creature and a majestic bird who magically switch places and embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Think Cool Fridaybut for two natural sworn enemies of their wildlife Valley.
There is no human or technical element here, so don’t worry about it being direct Jumpers tear off.

My Killer Father: The Green Hollow Murders (Paramount+)

This hard-hitting Paramount+ docuseries follows Lucy Studey McKiddy as she tells the story of her father Donald Studey, known as ‘the Monster of Green Hollow’. Horrifyingly, she claims to know where dozens of bodies are buried from decades of his alleged murders.
Across the three episodes, she claims her father killed dozens of women, including three of his wives, and forced her and her siblings to help dispose of the bodies in an old well on their remote property. Expect it to send chills down your spine this weekend. — LB

I love a murder mystery, don’t you? They’re even better when there’s a stacked cast, and you’ll definitely find that The artist.
Indeed, Patti LuPone, Hank Azaria, Mandy Patinkin, Danny Huston, Chris Jehnert, Zachary Quinto, Anni Krueger, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Regina Ohashi, Katherine O’Sullivan, and Gemma Mcllhenny all stars in this exciting new series as the suspect.
Here, an eccentric tycoon and his wife host a gathering of the era’s greatest celebrities, including Thomas Edison, Edgar Degas and Evelyn Nesbit. Naturally, said gathering soon turns deadly. Get your detective hats ready for this one. — LB
