Karachi’s drug lord Pinky challenges the authorities

Police say she runs a sophisticated cocaine network that supplies Karachi’s elite through WhatsApp orders

Karachi police on Tuesday arrested a woman accused of running one of the city’s most organized drug supply networks.

The suspect, identified as Anmol alias “Pinky”, was arrested during a joint operation by the city police and a civic agency from a flat in the Garden area.

Investigators allege she ran a sophisticated cocaine processing and delivery operation with connections stretching beyond Karachi to Lahore, Islamabad and other cities.

According to police, Pinky not only supplied drugs to affluent neighborhoods including DHA and Clifton, but also personally prepared high-grade cocaine and managed deliveries through female riders and online platforms.

During the interrogation, she allegedly claimed that “nobody in Pakistan makes better cocaine” than hers. Police said she sold two categories of cocaine – “White Coke” for Rs25,000 per gram and “Golden Category” cocaine for Rs40,000 per gram.

Police claimed to have recovered cocaine hydrochloride, ketamine hydrochloride, ephedrine hydrochloride, acetone and baking soda from her possession. The seized material, police added, included nearly seven kilograms of raw chemicals and more than 1.5 kilograms of prepared cocaine.

Investigators described the recovered chemicals as highly dangerous substances commonly used in emergency medical procedures, including anesthesia and pain management.

Garden Station House Officer Hanif Siyal said she had hired female riders to distribute drugs across the city. He claimed that the network had operated for a long time through selected couriers and served specific customers.

The police further alleged that Pinky used social media platforms and mobile applications to sell drugs online, especially in upscale areas of the city.

According to investigators, customers could allegedly place orders through WhatsApp and have drugs delivered to their doorsteps. They claimed that her clientele included students from elite neighborhoods as well as influential and high-profile individuals.

Officials said southern police already wanted the suspect in 10 separate cases. Two more cases were also registered against her – one related to possession of an Austrian-made 9mm Glock pistol and another related to cocaine and chemicals allegedly used in its manufacture.

Sources revealed that one of the cases was registered against Pinky by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in 2019 for allegedly running a drug trafficking network. She reportedly fled from Karachi to Lahore and remained an avowed criminal for several years.

Investigators claimed that apart from Karachi and Lahore, she continued to operate as a drug dealer in various cities of Punjab. Her alleged network mainly targeted private parties in posh areas, while authorities also suspected links to drug supply in educational institutions.

Meanwhile, an allegedly leaked audio recording of Pinky resurfaced on social media after her arrest and quickly went viral.

In the audio clip, she could allegedly be heard taunting police and law enforcement agencies while claiming to operate freely across the metropolis.

“We’re open all over Karachi – stop us if you can,” she allegedly says in the recording.

The suspect also refers to herself as a “brand” while discussing drug supply and mentions a so-called “gold stock.”

In another part of the recording, she allegedly claims that “five, seven, even eight years go by, but no one is able to catch us.”

Earlier in the day, the police produced Pinky before the Judicial Magistrate of District South and sought her physical custody, claiming that drugs worth more than Rs1.5 million had been recovered from her possession.

According to the head of the investigation, two packages of hashish and other drug-related material were seized from the suspect. However, the court remanded the accused in prison with a remand.

Separately, senior police officials took stern notice after Pinky was presented in court without handcuffs, allegedly in violation of official SOPs and security protocols.

According to a Sindh Police spokesperson, Inspector General of Police (IG) Javed Alam Odho ordered the Additional IG in Karachi to submit a detailed report on the matter and ordered immediate suspension of officials found negligent. A departmental inquiry committee comprising senior officers was also formed to probe the incident.

“Violation of the law and SOPs will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the Sindh police chief said, warning that strict action would be taken against those responsible.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah praised the police for their crackdown on narcotics and directed authorities to intensify operations against drug traffickers across the province.

“The elimination of drugs is the top priority of our government. Drugs are becoming the biggest menace to society,” the chief minister said.

He further directed the law enforcement agencies to deal strictly with drug peddlers and ensure that the province was kept free from the menace of drugs.
