- The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide might just have a 50 MP main camera
- That would almost certainly make it weaker for photography than the standard Z Fold 8, which will likely have a 200MP camera
- However, it could at least have a decent battery capacity
If you were hoping that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide would be able to come close to the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 for photography, we have some bad news because the latest leak suggests that it will be significantly worse.
We already expected this phone to have only two rear cameras, rather than the three that we’re likely to get on the Z Fold 8, and now we’ve learned that the main (wide) camera may be worse here as well.
According to GalaxyClub (via GSMArena), the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will only have a 50MP main camera, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 – and likely the Z Fold 8 – will have a 200MP one.
At the very least, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will reportedly have a 50MP ultra-wide camera, which would likely be a match for the Galaxy Z Fold 8s, and an upgrade on the 12MP used by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, if this claim is correct, then its zoom capabilities probably won’t be up to much, as it won’t have either a dedicated main crop sensor for a dedicated telephoto sensor.
Overall, this phone sounds closer to the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in terms of camera hardware, which is also rumored to have a 50MP main sensor, albeit alongside a weaker 12MP ultra-wide.
A disappointing revelation
Potential buyers are understandably not happy about this rumor, with one of the comments under the aforementioned GSMArena article reading “removed from my wish list” and another describing the upcoming phone as “another extremely overpriced Samsung device with outdated mid-range cameras.”
Still, there is some good news, as today’s report also echoes earlier claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will have a 4,800mAh battery and the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a 5,000mAh one, both of which would top the 4,400mAh battery inside the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
We’ll likely find out how accurate any of this is in July, since that’s when these phones are likely to launch.
