Queen rushed to hospital after health hazard

Queen Margrethe of Denmark, 86, has been taken to hospital following a medical emergency, a spokesman for the royal court has confirmed.

In an announcement about the Danish royal’s health, the representative said in a statement that she is being treated for angina at Rigshospitalet and is “tired” and in “good spirits”.

According to the statement, the queen, who abdicated in 2024 and handed over the throne to her first-born son Frederik, will remain under observation over the weekend.

The former sovereign ruled the Scandinavian country for 52 years before abdicating in January 2024 for his eldest son, Frederik.

Margrethe has faced several health problems in recent years. The Queen was previously hospitalized last year.

In 2025, Queen Margarethe was admitted to hospital with an undisclosed illness. At the time, the royal house stated that she was admitted to the Rigshospitalet for “observation as a precaution”.

After being hospitalized on 8 May, Queen Margrethe returned to Fredensborg Castle on 10 May, when she was discharged from hospital.

Queen Margarethe has had a busy royal schedule of late with her latest royal outing with her daughter-in-law, Queen Mary, resulting in the former monarch having to exchange a stern word with the reigning queen.

The royal family, including Mary’s husband, King Frederik, and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, were seen outside Fredensborg Castle to attend a concert by the Royal Life Guards Band for Margrethe’s 86th birthday.
