- A big update is rolling out for Coros watches
- The headline feature is voice commands, currently in beta
- Strength training, automatic laps for races and the control center are all tweaked along with a new photo sharing feature
Coros users get a nice bundle of new features and other updates starting today. Coros’ May Feature Update gives Coros users, especially modern ones, a ton of new features to play with, most notably Voice Control.
Voice Control can be used to start an exercise profile on the watch, whether it’s walking, trail running or even gravel biking, by pressing and holding the action button. You can also make more detailed changes within these profiles, such as changing lanes during runs or changing the treadmill speed of a treadmill profile. You can even ‘log a catch’ while fishing.
It can also be used for the usual range of setting reminders, enabling Find My Phone and so on. If you want to get early access to the feature, you can sign up for the beta program here.
Our writer Michael Sawh recently interviewed Coros CEO Lewis Wu, and as we publish the second half of that interview next week, we can reveal that the move toward voice commands is very much in line with Wu’s AI-driven vision for Coros.
He said: “We believe voice is the future… “If you want future-proof hardware or a running watch for yourself, consider them with a microphone. That’s our vision.” You can read all about Coros’ AI plans in the second part of the interview, out next week.
What’s new?
Other updates include Custom Photo Sharing, which allows you to overlay your stats and recent training sessions with a photo of your choice before sharing with friends or on social media. It creates a vertical overlay with stats such as speed or altitude – perfect for sharing to Instagram or Strava.
Strength Mode has received an update that allows users to edit reps and intensity either on the watch or in the app after the session, and rep count accuracy has reportedly improved as well.
You can now choose to set up Auto Laps when running by distance or by position, so you can return to where you started to begin another lap. This is perfect for circular runs or hill sprints. The Control Center will also receive an update with a new easy-to-access layout.
The update is available starting today.
