KARACHI:

The Red Line project on University Road has become a growing source of frustration for citizens, with residents describing the ongoing construction as a protracted ordeal and questioning the quality of the work being done.

Although authorities had recently completed and opened a stretch of road from Safari Park to Nipa Chowrangi for traffic, the section has reportedly started sinking at several places within days of its opening.

The road has developed depressions of about four to six inches in several places, while manhole covers have been installed over the road surface, creating dangerous conditions for motorists – especially motorcyclists.

Citizens fear that the uneven surface and raised covers could lead to serious accidents as traffic continues to move through the area.

The situation has heightened public concern over the Red Line construction on University Road, which residents say has already caused serious difficulties over the past four and a half years due to prolonged delays and disruptions.

Following these issues, traffic has now been diverted to an adjacent route after the affected stretch was reportedly closed again for remedial work.
