ISLAMABAD:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced on Wednesday that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the province will resume operations from Thursday (today), bringing much-needed relief to transporters, motorists and the public after weeks of disruption.
Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad along with KP opposition leader Dr. Ebadullah and Provincial Adviser on Finance Muzammil Aslam, the governor said the provincial government, the opposition parties and the federal government have been working together to solve the long-standing gas shortage problem.
“From tomorrow (Thursday), CNG stations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will open. Gas will be supplied continuously from 6 am to 6 pm daily,” declared Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. He added that an agreement has been reached with the federal government to supply 35 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas to the province.
The governor emphasized that all political parties in KP are united in solving the problems faced by the people of the province. “The solution to the problems of the province is our top priority. Every stakeholder must play their role. We want a strong federation and therefore we directly asked the Prime Minister to take note of the matter,” he said.
Governor Kundi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for setting up a high-level committee to resolve the CNG gas supply issue. He especially thanked Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah and Federal Minister Ali Pervez Malik for their proactive role in resolving the crisis. “We informed the Prime Minister about the CNG situation and a positive decision has been taken,” he noted.
The governor also welcomed the prompt action of the federal government on the wheat crisis, saying the problem is expected to be resolved within the next one or two days. “Positive progress is being made towards addressing the legitimate concerns of the province. The harmony between the federation and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is commendable,” he added.
Highlighting the rare political unity in the province, Governor Kundi praised the joint efforts of the provincial government and the opposition parties.
