PTI mulls return to parliamentary committees

ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is reportedly considering a return to parliamentary standing committees as part of a wider internal reassessment of its legislative strategy, party sources said on Thursday.

The sources said the PTI parliamentary party has submitted a key resolution for immediate implementation, which has now been presented to the party lawmakers for consideration and approval.

The resolution is said to enjoy the support of a majority of parliamentarians. The proposed policy framework identifies the release of party founder Imran Khan and other political prisoners as the party’s key priority.

It also includes requirements related to the imprisoned leader’s health, safety and access to his personal doctor.

According to sources, the resolution also outlines plans for the party to raise its voice more forcefully in parliament, courts and public forums on key political and government issues.

It further emphasizes the need to highlight issues such as inflation, unemployment and wider human rights issues. The document also advises pursuing legal and constitutional measures against the trial of civilians in military courts.

The sources said the resolution contains a decision to conduct monthly reviews of parliamentary performance.

It also calls for strengthening media talks, press conferences and public outreach campaigns to make them more effective.

Under the proposed framework, floor strategy, walkouts and voting decisions will be conducted strictly in accordance with directives from the party leadership. PTI MPs have been instructed to strictly follow party discipline.

According to the resolution, any deviation from party policy will result in disciplinary sanctions.

The sources further said that once the resolution is approved, it will be implemented immediately.
