Star Wars is back on the big screen. Actually with Mandalorian and Grogu finally ends the iconic sci-fi franchise’s theatrical hiatus, I suspect many of you will be heading to your local cinema to see what it’s all about.
But if you’ve been put off by its middling critical reception – read my review Mandalorian and Grogu to see what I thought — you may decide to save your money and wait for it to come out on Disney+. So when could one of 2026’s new movies make its streaming debut?
Does The Mandalorian and Grogu have a Disney+ release date yet?
No. The film’s sequel to The Mandalorian TV series first hit theaters on May 22, so it’ll be a while before they’re released on Disney+.
When can that be? I don’t have any inside information, but my best guess is that it will drop on one of the top streaming services in early September, with September 2nd being the most likely scenario.
Why then? Typically, Disney releases its first-party movies on its primary streamer about three months after they launch in theaters. Some have come to the service earlier or later than expected, but that’s usually the result of underperforming at the global box office or still making money via ticket sales, leaving them in theaters for longer.
Before Mandalorian and Grogulet’s assume it lands on Disney+ three months after its theatrical release. That would mean it should be available to watch at home on August 22nd, right?
Not exactly. You see, new Disney+ movies tend to come out on a Wednesday. This year, August 22 falls on a Saturday, so there is absolutely no chance that the first of many new Star Wars movies and TV shows will launch on that date.
Now it is possible Mandalorian and Grogu could fall on the Wednesday either side of August 22nd – those dates being August 19th and 26th. However, I believe Disney will hold off on its streaming launch until the previously mentioned September 2nd date. The reason? Labor Day, one of many holidays in the United States, is set to take place on Monday, September 7 this year.
With many Americans due to enjoy a three-day weekend around that date, release Mandalorian and Grogu Wednesday before Labor Day weekend makes perfect sense. Those who live stateside will likely have a few hours to spare at some point during the extended weekend, so loading up on Disney+ to watch the latest Star Wars movie is something millions of them will surely do.
And hey, if you don’t live in the US, I’m sure you’ll have some downtime during the first weekend of September. If you do, and you’re a Star Wars fan, you’re just as likely to log on to Disney+ to see what the fuss is about Mandalorian and Grogualso.
How long is The Mandalorian and Grogu?
As you’ve noticed by now – if you haven’t skipped ahead to this section anyway – I’ve said you’ll need to set aside a few hours to watch Mandalorian and Grogu.
That’s due to the fact that its running time is two hours and 12 minutes, including its end-credits crawl. This makes it the fourth shortest Star Wars film of all time, with only the original film trilogy having shorter running times.
Does The Mandalorian and Grogu have a credits scene?
No. Once Din Djarin and Baby Yoda’s latest galactic adventure is complete, there isn’t a mid- and/or post-credits scene to stick around.
By all means sit through the sequence of endings to appreciate the sheer number of people who worked on it Mandalorian and Grogu. But if you’re sitting around hoping you’ll get a hint of what’s next for the legendary galaxy far, far away, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.
