QUETTA:

Sixteen people, including three policemen, were injured after unidentified assailants threw a hand grenade at a police patrol in Dera Murad Jamali on Thursday, police officials confirmed.

The blast took place near DC Chowk at Faseel Plaza in the main bazaar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dera Murad Jamali City Police Station in Nasirabad district.

According to law enforcement officers, unknown men riding a motorcycle allegedly threw a hand grenade at a police mobile engaged in routine patrol duties. The device detonated with a loud blast, causing injuries to police personnel and civilians present in the crowded marketplace.

Emergency personnel and local residents rushed the injured to the Teaching Hospital in Dera Murad Jamali, where medical teams provided immediate treatment.

Hospital authorities said several victims sustained serious injuries, leading to the transfer of four people to a medical facility in Larkana for specialized care.

According to police, the injured included local residents and bystanders, as well as officers assigned to patrol duty at the time of the incident. The attack sparked panic in the area as businesses were temporarily shut down and people fled for safety.

Soon after the blast, police and security forces arrived in large numbers, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down those responsible.

Security measures were intensified across the city, especially at sensitive locations and entry points, to prevent further threats.

Nasirabad division has seen security-related incidents in recent years, with armed groups repeatedly targeting police, security personnel and key government installations.
