Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Monday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Monday, May 25 (Game #813).
Strands is the NYT’s latest word game, following the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult though, so read on for my Strands tips.

NEW Strands today (game #814) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #814, are…
- MOSS
- ACORN
- DAISY
- PUDDLE
- FEATHER
- POW PRESS
- SPANGRAM: SCAVENGER HUNT
- My assessment: Hard
- My score: 2 hints
It’s been a while since we’ve had a 13-letter spangram, but even though it took up a large portion of the board, I completely failed to look at SCAVENGERHUNT.
But if you were looking for non-game words for hints, the letters that contained what became the spanram were plentiful, so I got “revenge”, “vengeance”, “revenge”, “cave” and “hunt” long before I started searching properly – which is possibly why I took two hints to get me started.
MOSS and ACORN were a confusing opening, as at this point I thought our trail could be confined to a wooded area, but DAISY finally helped me realize that this was a much more random search – although if it was like the scavenger hunts I went on as a kid, you’d have to throw a Mars bar in there too just to keep me interested.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Monday, May 25, Game #813)
- SERVICE
- SACRIFICE
- HONOR
- VIRTUE
- PROTECTION
- SPANGRAM: MEMORIAL DAY
