- Fans may have found a connection to The Witcher 3 songs from the past‘s artwork
- The sword Geralt is holding in the artwork appears to match the same one depicted in an illustration shared last month
- Fans believe that the sword will gain some importance in the upcoming expansion
After months of rumors, CD Projekt Red finally announced the third expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs from the pastyesterday, and fans may have already uncovered a connection to the new artwork.
The discovery comes from Reddit user ‘KvasirTheOld’ (via Eurogamer ), who shared a mashup of Songs from the past‘s artwork showing Geralt wielding a third sword, and another illustration shared by the studio on April 30 that appears to feature the same weapon.
“The DLC sword was sneakily shown in an artwork a month ago,” the user said, and looking at the comparisons, they appear to be identical.
The sword in Songs from the past‘s art features a gold-turned mount and is clad in a red leather sheath that matches the one almost tucked away in the lower left corner of the illustration shared last month.
Fans initially thought the sword might be the Gesheft, a silver sword obtained in Blood and Wine expansion, but others in the thread pointed out their design differences, primarily that the former doesn’t have the serrated edges on the blade or the same gold grip.

The illustration, shared last month, was posted alongside a poem to celebrate the Gaelic festival of Beltane, or Belleteyn as CDPR calls it, which marks the beginning of summer. In the art, Geralt is seen sitting up against a tree while Dandelion plays his lute and sings to a group of dancers in front of a fire.
The sword can be seen lying next to him in the grass next to another unidentifiable sword, but it is neither Geralt’s silver nor steel sword, which he is often depicted wearing in official artwork.
Another interesting thing to note is the sparks can be seen in Songs from the past work of art. In the Belleteyn illustration there is a bonfire and the caption for the post reads “May your Belleteyn evening be full of magic and sparkles!” Hmm.
Witchers typically use only two swords, so it is significant that Geralt would be depicted with the third weapon in his hands. The sword may have some significance in the story of the expansion; maybe it has a link to Ciri, who is involved The Witcher 4? It certainly doesn’t look like the sword Ciri carries in any of those Witcher 4 trailers we’ve seen so far, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Scheduled to launch in 2027, Songs of the Past will be “a brand new full-fledged expansion” co-developed by Fool’s Theory. Players will once again take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and “embark on an all-new adventure before hitting the trail as Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4.”
