Recent History: The quarter-finals are a bit of a foregone conclusion for France, at least in recent years. The French have reached at least the quarter-finals in five of the last seven World Cups and have won the tournament twice in four of the last seven years. As for Spain, it has only reached the quarter-finals twice in the past seven tournaments, but won it all in 2010. Brazil has at least reached the quarter-finals in eight consecutive tournaments.
The host nations: Canada has never won or tied a World Cup match in two tournaments. This will be its third World Cup exhibition. As for Mexico, it has two quarterfinal appearances all-time (1970 and 1986) and the United States has one QF appearance (2002).
