- DC Studios has released a final trailer for this Supergirl
- It further underscores why it’s no longer called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
- The film, starring Milly Alcock, will be released on June 26
There is less than a month left Supergirl is flying into cinemas worldwide – and what better way to celebrate its fast-approaching release date than with a new trailer?
Well, that’s exactly what DC Studios has done today (June 3) by revealing another round of footage ahead of the upcoming film’s June 26 arrival. And if it wasn’t entirely clear why the comic book movie was stripped of its ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ subtitle, this latest teaser spelled it out.
Look at
For those unaware: The DC Universe (DCU) the film is heavily inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowalso known as the 2021 graphic novel series created by Tom King and Bilquis Eveley.
After its initial reveal as part of the original DCU Chapter One film and television series, the Milly Alcock-led film bore the same name as its comic book counterpart. Last June, however, DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that its title had been shortened to Supergirl because he was “sick” of watching movies with superfluous subtitles.
At the time it seemed like a strange decision to make. After all, Supergirl was set to directly adapt a story from an existing piece of literature, so dropping the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ part of this Kara Zor-El fronted tale didn’t seem like a wise move.

Fast forward to April 2026 and it started to become clear to me Supergirl wouldn’t be the comic book adaptation I was hoping for. In fact, the footage released as part of its official trailer indicated that it would only be inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowrather than being a 1:1 translation of the story within its pages.
With the arrival of this third and final sneak peek, I am fully convinced that is the case as well. From the reveal that it’s Clark Kent – aka Kal El, aka Superman – who gives Kara her super suit and signs that Lobo will have a significant role in this film, to Krem’s seemingly superhuman abilities (NB: he’s just an ordinary individual in the comics), to the large number of vehicles his forces have at their disposal (double NB: they only have a single starship in the graphic novel), it seems Supergirl‘s creative team has played fast and loose with its source material.
All of this is to say that my excitement for one of 2026’s many new movies hasn’t been dampened by this new trailer. I’m still looking forward to seeing Kara kick ass in a live-action movie, which she desperately deserves, and I still expect Supergirl to contain all the major story beats from The woman of tomorrow. I just wish it was more of a direct adaptation rather than a remake of King and Eveley’s award-winning literary works.
