Minister of Information confirms commitment to minority rights in talks with Christian delegation

Both sides agreed to establish an effective mechanism to resolve issues related to Christian personal laws

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting minority rights during a meeting with a delegation representing the Christian community, state television said. PTV reported.

The delegation met Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar where they held detailed discussions on minority rights, legal reforms and the welfare of the Christian community.

The meeting included an extensive exchange of views on issues relating to minority rights, legal reforms and welfare, with a particular focus on issues relating to the Christian community. Both sides agreed to establish an effective mechanism to resolve issues related to Christian personal laws and other issues.

During the meeting, the information minister said that consultation with minority representatives ensured that “the needs of all citizens are taken into account in legislation and policy-making.”

He added that the government was committed to promoting interfaith harmony, equal citizenship and an inclusive society, emphasizing the vision of a country where “every Pakistani can contribute to national development without discrimination.”

Azam said, “Comprehensive legal and political reforms through consultation are of great importance,” adding that the government remained committed to ensuring “equal rights and equal opportunities for all citizens.”

The delegation “appreciated the government’s continued commitment to protecting the rights of minority communities.” It also welcomed recent legislation, particularly the Child Marriage Restriction Act, and praised the government’s efforts to “protect minorities and promote equal opportunities.”
