- Fairphone CEO Raymond van Eck has teased two new Fairphone products
- A new smartphone, potentially the Fairphone 7, is likely to be among that number
- Fairphone recently confirmed plans to enter the US market
Fairphone CEO Raymond van Eck has teased two upcoming Fairphone products in an exclusive statement to TechRadar.
“We’re working on two new products that the whole Fairphone team is incredibly proud of,” van Eck told us via email. “I can’t give away the surprises right now – where’s the fun in that? – but I promise they’ll really push the envelope on what people expect from modular and sustainable technology, and TechRadar readers will be some of the first to know!”
At the same time, the Fairphone boss also shared a LinkedIn post with YouTuber Zack Nelson (aka JerryRigEverything), in which Nelson writes: “Finally! It’s about time. I’ve been waiting.”
The Fairphone 6 was officially announced last June, so it seems van Eck’s tease relates to the company’s next sustainability-focused smartphone. However, Fairphone has so far released a new model every two years – the Fairphone 5 arrived in 2023, the Fairphone 4 in 2021 and so on – so there’s no guarantee that this upcoming device will be the Fairphone 7, nor that it will be a smartphone at all.
The nature of the second product in van Eck’s tease is even harder to predict. Fairphone routinely launches audio products to sit alongside its smartphones, but the latest edition of its Fairphone Fairbuds XL over-ears was launched in December 2025, writing off the possibility of an imminent successor. The company’s wireless earbuds, the Fairphone Fairbuds, launched in April 2024, so a new pair of them in 2026 makes more sense.
Perhaps Fairphone is preparing to enter a whole new product category. It has yet to release a sustainability-focused tablet, and Nelson’s excitement – “Finally! It’s about time” – suggests something really new is on the horizon from the Dutch manufacturer. Could this be Fairtablet?
Remember that Fairphone’s expansion into the US market – where Nelson is based – also falls under the “something really new” category. At present it is is possible to pick up a Fairphone 6 in the US, but only in a de-Googled, T-Mobile-locked configuration, sold exclusively by Murena for $899. American buyers therefore have particular reason to be excited about any new Fairphone smartphone.
In any case, it has been a good few years for Fairphone. While undoubtedly still a small fish in a big pond, the company achieved record growth in 2025, and the Fairphone 6 – which improved on its predecessor with a better display, a faster chipset and a more attractive design – was well received by buyers and reviewers (including us).
Here’s hoping that Fairphone can continue its upward trajectory with the two products it is making by 2026.
