Naqvi will visit Iran on Saturday amid mediating pressure between the US and Iran, Pakistani sources said

Both review the prevailing security environment in the country and measures taken to maintain peace and stability

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave guidance to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday ahead of the latter’s upcoming visit to Iran as Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to achieve peace between Tehran and Washington continue.

The Home Minister met the Prime Minister in Lahore to discuss his upcoming trip and other issues.

“Consultations also took place between the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister regarding the upcoming visit of the Interior Minister to Tehran. The Prime Minister provided guidance regarding the visit,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office read.

The interior minister also briefed the prime minister about his important engagements held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

They further reviewed in detail the prevailing security environment in the country and measures being taken to maintain peace and stability along with the overall law and order situation.

Naqvi briefed the Prime Minister about the steps being taken to ensure law and order and protect citizens across the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of close coordination between all relevant institutions and called for a unified strategy to further strengthen law and order and enhance national security.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintain peace, protect citizens and ensure effective cooperation between all security and law enforcement agencies.

Pakistani sources have previously told this Anatolia that Naqvi was set to meet top Iranian officials to discuss “some new proposals” to reach an interim agreement between Tehran and Washington to break the ongoing impasse.

He would also discuss reviving a second round of talks between the parties to end the conflict, they added.

Iran’s semi-official news agency More also reported that Naqvi would visit the country to hold talks amid Islamabad’s ongoing mediation efforts.

The visit comes as Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, met on Friday in Bishkek.

Naqvi has been directly involved in negotiations with Tehran as Pakistan brokers a possible deal between the US and Iran to permanently end the war, which began on February 28.
