During the EC between Denmark and Finland in June 2021, the game was suspended after a terrifying scene where Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the first half of the match.
The game immediately came to a standstill at the Parken Stadion in Copenhagen, where Eriksen lay on the grass without reacting. CPR was needed to revive him as medical staff and teammates circled his body in obvious distress, hoping for the best.

Eriksen received 10 minutes of medical attention and was later taken off the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask over his mouth. Pictures began circulating on social media at the time of Eriksen being awake with a hand on his forehead.
Eriksen was later transferred to a hospital and was stabilized.
Since then, Eriksen has been fitted with a heart-starting device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen issued a statement via multiple outlets, saying Eriksen’s “pacemaker is responding as it should.”

“He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him,” Boesen’s statement read.
“He will not undergo further tests at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in constant contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is fine and he asked me to send my regards to all the players and let them know he is okay.”
